Take a long glance at me and tell yourself softly what you see. Just another lost vixen, yes? It’s obvious that all of us are just dogs, although we are all different. It may be our mass, our color, what type of pelt we have, or maybe the tint of our orbs. If every canine around had the same character, then the planet would be pretty unexciting. Some tend to think highly of themselves, the ones who like to be the ‘boss’ dog. Disgust fills my heart when I meet those types of dogs, merely because they claim you before you could turn away, and most of the times they’d drag you home. Well, at least that’s what I had seen a few times. Maybe not all of the commanding types are like that. Most of them are. Okay, I’ll stop now.
I’ve been following a petite path that led away from the city, and for a while now I have been treading on it, my signature left behind in the rutted crimson dirt road every step I took. Why was I just wandering around, you might ask? Because of pure boredom. I found the walk quite relaxing all the while as the birds chirped and the forest engulfing me seemed to be moving with life. Everything stirred, it seemed, for a breeze had been toying with the trees briefly and the earth floor had swarms of insects. I paused to gaze at the bugs, seeing that most of them were leaf-cutting ants or beetles that ran under a leaf and paused before racing towards another. Many different birds scouted from the trees overhead, cocking their heads before sweeping down and snatching a startled bug or tugged a retreating worm from the soil. I took a deep inhalation of the wildlife, drinking in the perfume of wildflowers and the different aromas of creatures.
Continuing my walk I came upon rusted, twisted signs that had a sketch of a playground on it, and below the diagram words followed. Just beyond, a chain link fence enclosed a wooden playground that had worn plastic slides and timber barrels that made tunnels. It was paradise for me. Finely rounded pebbles grated against each other as I treaded upon them, and with a swift glance I absorbed everything that I could. The fenced area also held a miniature park within it, just ahead of the playground a tiny meadow laid among a clear trickling stream. The fence contained maybe about an acre, possibly two of forestry and a couple of meadows. The little mammals running around would be a good food source. Tossing my crown up I released a sharp bay, letting all who was near know that I was claiming. It lasted briefly, and when I was done, my auds did a dance trying to catch a reply. None. The whole terra fell silent, the birds, the bugs, everything. Perfect. Satisfied, a grin creased my kissers as I sat. Though it wasn’t truly the biggest or best, but it was home.
Land name:
Atomic Playground
Description:
The rutted, scarlet path leading from the city is almost hidden so it takes time and patience to find it, if you plan on visiting. Once you find it though you’re right on track, literally. When following it just before you reach the playground a few tarnished, twisted signs still stand giving the diagram of a park and below that another sign holds chipped, unreadable words. Once you meet the chain link fence, which is still in excellent condition, you have reached the heart of the pack. The entrance is the one and only because the fence encloses the whole terra, making a border so the alphas don’t have to. Most of the time you might find a guard placed there. The wooden playground equipment provides shelter, unless of course you prefer to sleep in thick undergrowth. Just beyond lays a meadow, a good place for pups to frolic or maybe a nice spot to talk. Small mammals provide food, like rabbits or sometimes cats although there is a lot to choose from. The trees supply shade and a stream offers water, so the terra gives all that is needed. Sure, this two acre land may seem fine and dandy but it also has its disadvantages. Since the tall chain link fence is rather un-jumpable it makes it hard to flee in case of an emergency. It would also leave the pack cornered if another decided to attack, so you have to be rather careful.
